MGFT is an animal welfare charity. Our headquarters and main sanctuary at Church Knowle is set in 35 acres of the Isle of Purbeck and consists of catteries, small animal & wildlife units, grazing & stables, intensive nursing units and a Garden of Remembrance.
We employ around 20 animal welfare workers and also rely on a large number of volunteers. We are open all year to the public, have an education suite for visiting schools and work in association with local special needs groups with a variety of projects.
Our primary objectives are:
- the provision of life time care to retired, bequeathed and long term resident animals; the latter involves those animals with specific requirements relating to major medical and behavioural problems where homing is inappropriate,
- the rescue and rehoming of animals which have been rescued through being unwanted, abandoned, and ill-treated or through local authority stray dog contracts.

When a loved pet passes away it can be a very stressful time for the owners, and people without pets cannot necessarily understand the trauma a loss causes. Even close members of the family and friends may sometimes
be unable to help.
Recognising the problem, our staff can offer support and
understanding to people who have lost a much loved animal.
If you or somebody you know suffers the loss of a pet and needs somebody to talk to, please ring 01929 480 474 or your local sanctuary and we will ensure you or they get the support needed. |
